July 5, 2018 OK, I’m fully convinced now. The engine we have the SP Protec-Rail in is definitely maintaining temperature more efficiently than in recent years. June 13, 2018 There may even be an unforeseen advantage. I wasn’t expecting this but it now seems that we’re becoming less prone to engine overheating with heavy trains on our grades. It’s ordinarily not uncommon for us to stop and cool the engine down when cresting certain grades, to avoid a hot engine alarm. With a particularly heavy train the other day we didn’t need to do this. Temperature stayed close to normal. I’m beginning to wonder if this is attributable to the chemistry of SP Protec Rail possibly reducing accumulated scale in our radiators. Bill Taber - President, GM - Batten Kill RR

Use at 1% concentration - SP Protec Rail is a mixture of selected ingredients designed to protect locomotive radiators and closed water boiler systems. It minimizes scale build-up in radiators and boilers and protects all metals from oxidation (corrosion).

It contains a built in indicator that changes from pink to clear when the inhibitors in the product are used up. This indicates that the solution should be changed or product added.
